Care Sheet
Here at Stanton Stud we promote the ‘Five Freedoms’
1. Freedom from hunger and thirst
2. Freedom from discomfort
3. Freedom from pain, injury and disease
4. Freedom to behave normally
5. Freedom from fear and distress
For these ‘Five Freedoms’ to be given you must provide the basic needs for your Rabbit. These include fresh food and water at all time, fresh and clean bedding and a hutch/ shelter which easily and comfortably accommodate your Rabbits size and needs. They must be kept safely away from other animals that could be a danger to them, and a safe secure run for them to exercise in. It is also advisable that the hutch is raised slightly from the ground as this will stop the hutch from getting damp and will also prevent animals such as rats/ mice from entering your Rabbits hutch.
If you have two or more Rabbits living together then it is advised that you have them neutered before 6 months old to prevent any unexpected litters, also same sex Rabbits may fight once they reach maturity so neutering can help to avoid this.
You can now insure your Rabbit against illness; this is a good idea as veterinary bills can be costly and sometimes unexpected. We also advise you to have your Rabbit vaccinated against VHD and Myxomatosis (your vet will advise this further and answer your questions).
Please feel free to contact me if you need any further advice or help and I will be happy to help...
